Day 1: arrival in Romania - Cluj-Napoca - dinner
Arrival at Cluj-Napoca International Airport.
Welcome by your English speaking guide.
Transfer and check-in at your hotel in Cluj-Napoca.
A few hours of free time to rest after your journey to Romania.
We will discover the highlights of this beautiful city, with about 2.000 years of history.
Our walking tour will include the main sights: Union Square, St. Michael’s Church, Matthias Corvinus Monument, Heroes’ Avenue, Capitoline Wolf Statue, Avram Iancu Square, Romanian National Opera, the Orthodox Cathedral, Banffy Palace, Museum Square, the Franciscan Church and Matthias Corvinus House, outside visits only.
Dinner at a local restaurant.
Transfer to the hotel.
Accommodation in Cluj-Napoca.
Day 2: Cluj-Napoca - Budesti - Breb - Ocna Sugatag - breakfast, lunch, dinner
Breakfast.
We begin our journey heading North, to the picturesque land of Maramures.
Maramures is home to numerous villages where century-old traditions are still part of everyday life. Maramures is all about the quintessence of life, family and culture.
Our first visit in the land of Maramures will be the wooden church of Saint Nicholas in Budesti, dating from 1643 and today part of UNESCO World Heritage.
We will continue with a stop in the splendid little village of Breb.
Beautiful photo locations here, as the village is settled among the hills, and it’s bets known for its traditional wooden houses.
The people of Maramures have preserved, to an amazing extent, the authentic rural culture and crafts, especially the woodcarving, passed down by their ancestors through the generations.
Transfer to our pension in Ocna Sugatag.
Lunch at a local restaurant.
Free afternoon to enjoy the local spa.
Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3: Ocna Sugatag - Sapanta - Barsana - Ocna Sugatag - breakfast, lunch, dinner
Breakfast.
Departure for Sapanta.
Here we will visit the Merry Cemetery. One of a kind, the Merry Cemetery surprises with the vivid colors of the crosses and the amusing or satirical epitaphs carved on them.
Then we will visit Sapanta Peri Monastery, which, with its 75 meter tall tower, is the tallest wooden building in Romania.
We continue to Barsana, where we’ll visit of the Monastic Wooden Complex, dominating the hill of the village.
We return to Ocna Sugatag.
Transfer to our pension in Ocna Sugatag.
Lunch at a local restaurant.
Free afternoon to enjoy the local spa.
Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 4: Ocna Sugatag - Viseu de Sus - breakfast, lunch, dinner

We depart Ocna Sugatag and continue our journey to Viseu de Sus.
Arrival in Viseu de Sus.
Transfer to the local train station.
We will board our accommodation for tonight, the ”Carpatia Express”. Our train features two sleeping cars, a dining car and of course, a steam locomotive, built in Romania.
Dinner in the dining car of the the ”Carpatia Express”.

Day 5: Viseu de Sus - ”Mocanita” steam train - Viseu de Sus - Gura Humorului - breakfast, lunch, dinner
Breakfast on board the ”Carpatia Express”.
Today a truly amazing experience awaits, a steam train ride into the pristine forests of Maramures, on the Vaser Valley!
This train is unique in Europe, the last of the Carpathian Forestry Railways.
We will venture about 21 kilometers into Maramures Mountains National Park and enjoy the scenic ride onboard the steam train.
Lunch will be taken in the middle of nature
We return to Viseu de Sus and continue to Gura Humorului.
Crossing from Maramures to Bukovina, our journey will take us through some of the most picturesque countryside of Northern Romania.
Arrival in the evening in Gura Humorului.
Transfer to the hotel.

Day 6: Gura Humorului - Humor - Voronet - Cluj-Napoca - breakfast, lunch, dinner
Breakfast.
We begin the day with the visit of Humor Monastery, part of the Churches of Moldavia and inscribed by UNESCO in the World Heritage list, constructed in 1530. Humor Monastery is famous for its’ frescoes, the main subjects of the local mural paintings at Humor are the Last Judgement, Hymn to the Virgin and the Siege of Constantinople.
We continue to yet another monastery, and visit Voronet Monastery, also part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Constructed in 1488 by a great national hero, Stephen the Great, it is known as the ”Sistine Chapel of the East”. An unique feature of the monastery is the intense shade of blue of the frescoes, known as the ”Voronet Blue”.

Our journey continues back to Cluj-Napoca, crossing the Eastern Carpathian Mountains.
Arrival in Cluj-Napoca in the evening.

Day 7: Cluj-Napoca - departure from Romania - breakfast

3. Some of the museums in Romania are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
